Consistent with our founder's vision, the research of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research Ltd (LICR) is conducted at multiple sites rather than at a single location. This model of a global network was chosen to facilitate the worldwide recruitment of outstanding scientists and clinicians, and to draw on the different strengths of a variety of laboratory, clinical, and cultural environments.
The Institute's ten Branches are located in seven different countries. Each functions in close association with a leading, non-profit university, research institute and/or teaching hospital, thus enabling LICR investigators to interact closely with investigators in a wide variety of disciplines. Through laboratory and clinical collaborations, teaching activities, and the training of graduate students, LICR has become an integral part of the academic life of many exceptional institutions.
The LICR engages leading investigators from outside the Branch structure to extend the expertise and resources of Institute-wide Initiatives in furtherance of its mission to understand and control cancer.
The LICR conducts clinical trials at a number of sites that combine excellent patient care with cutting-edge research and treatment to investigate the prognostic, diagnostic and/or therapeutic potential of LICR research discoveries.
The LICR has two offices: the head office in New York (USA) and the registered office in Zürich (Switzerland).
